Manuka Oil is an essential oil created through steam distillation of the leaves of the Manuka (or Leptospermum scoparium) tree. Native to New Zealand, the wild-growing plant has been used for centuries by the Maori people to help relieve wounds and skin conditions and treat coughs, colds, fevers, and headaches.
We distil our own Manuka essential oil that is 100% certified organic and naturally produced from wild plants on our farm. The oil is then infused into our therapeutic skincare range and other natural ingredients that compliment the manuka oil and provide you with an effective natural product free from nasty chemicals.

How is our Manuka Oil made?
To extract 100% pure organic Manuka Oil for its qualities, you need to harvest it from the precious plant in New Zealand. Our Manuka farm has been operating on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand for over 25 years. Our plants are harvested by hand, which allows us to select the best parts of the tree to create the finest quality organic Manuka oil.
From there, the leaves are transferred into the distillation unit. The process starts with the bottom of the unit being heated up. Once the unit is heated up, the water turns into steam – this in turns vaporises the oil from the Manuka plant leaves – it makes its way down into a cooling unit where it eventually goes into what’s called a separator and from there, the oil sits on top of the water and is collected.
It takes an hour or so to heat a large amount of water in the unit – and as part of the system, you need a constant flow of water into the VAT unit as the water is evaporated off.
Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
New Zealand’s leading organic certifier, Bio-Gro New Zealand, is our Organic Certifier and includes the USDA Organic and IFOAM organic certification programmes. In fact, we are the first certified organic producers of Manuka Oil in the world.
We pride ourselves on our sustainable farming methods and our commitment to environmental responsibility. Our plants grow wild on our farm and we are fortunate to have enough of them only to use about 5-10% of the plants available on our farm in any year. This gives us plenty of options in maintaining the health of our land.
There is nothing wasted within our whole process. Every part of the plant is used and possibilities for all the by-products. The essential oil comes from the leaves of the Manuka plant. Once it has been steaming distilled, the leftover foliage, leaves and branches make excellent gardening mulch. The water used during the steam distillation process is recycled back into the system or stored for use in a range of secondary products.
