Traditional Healing Wisdom, as Nature Intended
The history of Manuka oil begins when Captain Cook sailed into Mercury Bay in 1769, his crew sick with scurvy and infection, he came ashore for fresh water and supplies. He was greeted by the local Maori people of New Zealand, who offered him a medicinal decoction of boiled Manuka leaves known for its special healing powers Oil. The Manuka tree (Leptospermum Scoparium) had long been treasured by the Maori people, who used the bark and leaves to treat colds, dysentery, fever, and numerous other skin ailments.
Nearly 250 years later, Manuka Oil from the Coromandel Mountains region, is still used around the world as a powerful healer for a variety of skin conditions including: ringworm, chronic sores, athlete’s foot, cradle cap, nappy rash, eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis to name a few. The oil is a natural healing agent, with antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties; it is also a strong antioxidant.
A Family Tradition
The Murray-Leslie family began hand harvesting and steam-distilling Manuka leaves to produce the finest quality Manuka essential oil over 25 years ago. The family’s commitment to sustainable, chemical-free farming and their unique distillation process lead them to be the first Organically Certified producer of Manuka Oil in the world. They are currently certified organic through Bio Gro New Zealand.
Seeing wider potential for this amazing product, the family decided to expand the business and produce an all-natural skincare range, Manuka Biotic®. True to the family’s values, Manuka Biotic®is a 100% natural chemical, and fragrance-free skincare range, which can be used with confidence.
Manuka Oil vs. Manuka Honey
Manuka Honey has grown hugely in popularity over the last few years due to its amazing health benefits. And when people hear you say the word ‘Manuka’ they assume you are talking about Manuka Honey.
However, Manuka Oil is yet another amazing product that comes from this small prickle shrub that is native to New Zealand. Manuka Oil is the essential oil that is produced by steam distillation of the leaves of the Manuka plant.
It is an extremely potent essential oil as it is a concentrated product and contains all the unique properties of the Manuka plant. It has antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory properties, and can be used in wound healing as well as many other skin conditions.
